The Importance of Language in Early Childhood Development
It is very important to be careful about what you say in front of toddlers, because their minds are like a sponge. So if I say a word that isnt appropriate and a baby hears it then most likely he or she will repeat whatI’ve said. Also, since babies obviously dont know right from wrong then know matter how bad the word is they will repeat it as many times as they want. If they continue to copy words from other people then most likely when they get to an older age their vocabulary will be filled with inappropriate words.
Recently I have been using bad english around my little sister and she has stated to duplicate what I say. My sister is smarter then most babies I have met, so when I say things that aren’t good and she copies me then usually she recites it straight away. This Isn’t good because if my bad language continues, then when she’s 4 or 5 years old she will be very rude and misbehaved and I dont want that. To ensure this doesnt happen I will use correct enmglish so even if she copies me shes learning words that will increase her vocabulary in a good way.
Overall it is very important for babies to be taught and hear the correct english so that in the future talking correctly will come easy. So make sure you mind the way you talk at home. If you have a younger sibling in your house that doesn’t know right from wrong then make sure you teach him or her the right things that will support them in the future.
